We always aim to comply with the national laws and regulations, in addition to the international ones that the bank has to abide by, based on the services we provide.

The information we collect from you varies based on the way you are using the bank’s services. Our published internet services are limited to the following:

  • Banque Misr Liban internet banking website.
  • Banque Misr Liban mobile banking application.
  • Banque Misr Liban loyalty program website.

While using any of the services listed above, you directly provide some information that we use to identify you on the systems (e.g. your username, credentials, name, email address, phone number, date of birth, address, etc.), in addition to the information we passively collect from your devices (e.g. device type, IP address, browser type and version, operating system, visited pages, etc.) by just browsing our services.

In addition to the above, we also collect information that you directly provide when performing financial transactions or requests or the chat information that you initiate with our support team.

We will limit the use of information we collect to what we need for the purposes listed below.

How we use the collected information

Based on the service you are using or browsing, we mainly use the information to:

  • Verify your identity on the system(s), when required, and grant you access to view your accounts. Additional authentication means are required when performing more critical action on your accounts, and therefore, more personal information can be involved.
  • Respond to your inquiries and fulfill your requests.
  • Process financial instructions.
  • Personalize your experience on the site(s).
  • Market our products based on your most frequent requests, or pages you have visited recently.
  • Internally analyze the information and develop oriented products accordingly.
  • Detect and prevent fraud and other risks to the bank and to our clients.
  • Improve our services and enhance the experience of the website through statistical data and/or information you provide as sort of feedback.

How long your information is retained

Your personal data is stored by Banque Misr Liban for the period needed to fulfill the purposes indicated in this privacy policy (listed under point b), and to comply with the retention period as required by the applicable laws. For legal obligations, we may need to retain your information even after a transaction is completely executed.

Do we share your information with other parties?

In order to provide few services, we share limited information of yours with parties with deal with, for the sake of providing the specific service. The parties we deal with provides cards processing and call center services. The shared information is limited to your personal information solely, such as your name, email address, phone number, etc. In the case of the debit/credit cards, the account number is only shared with the card processing company.
These service providers are bounded with our privacy policies, and non-disclosure agreements are always signed prior to any engagement.

How we protect your information

We do implement various security measures to ensure the confidentiality of the personal information saved on our systems. The information is protected by physical, electronic and procedural measures, and we also require the service providers we deal with and that hold and process such information to follow the same measures in order to ensure the safety and confidentiality of the information.

When you access any of our published internet services, the communication will be subject to SSL encryption in order to ensure that the exchanged information between your computer/phone and our system are encrypted and cannot be intercepted by any third party.

Access to your account is only feasible by providing correct credentials, and in some cases additional form of authentication is required when accessing sensitive information or performing financial transactions. This validation relies primarily on the contact information you have provided to the bank, and therefore, we encourage you to contact the bank immediately in case you have changed your contact details. We recommend that you do not disclose your credentials to any person and keep it safe. Banque Misr Liban is not liable for any direct or indirect damage or loss sustained by you from any illegal or wrongful use of credentials.

For all the online services we provide, the financial information (such as account details, transactions, card numbers and details, etc.) are always retrieved from the core banking system and displayed to you via the service you are using. The servers of these published services do not hold any confidential financial information related to your accounts.

Collected information is protected by the banking secrecy laws that apply to all the employees of the bank and any third party we deal with.

Use of Cookie

Cookies are small files that a website transfers to your phone or computer’s hard drive through your web browser (if allowed – usually web browsers allow the use of cookies by default). Cookies allow our systems to recognize your browser, capture and remember certain information that we use to understand and save your preferences for future visits, or to maintain your session in case you have logged in using your credentials. You may change this preference from the computer or mobile browser you are using as indicated below.

Managing Cookies
You can manage how your browser handles cookies by modifying few rules in the browser’s settings. What are your responsibilities

You should always access the bank’s published services through the below means:

  1. By typing the site’s address in the address bar of your internet browser
  2. By clicking on the site shortcut, if the latter is saved under your browser’s favorites menu
  3. Through the link registered on the official site of Banque Misr Liban [www.bml.com.lb]

We advise you not to access your bank accounts through a hyperlink from the internet and always make sure that you are using the bank’s official published services. Our published services are certified by Global Certificate Authority; always make sure the certificate is valid in the address bar.
If you are accessing our services from a public computer, make sure to log off from the session and to close the internet browser once you are done; as an added security measure, you can also delete the temporary files from the computer. In case you suspect that someone observed your password, we advise you to change it immediately from a trusted device.

In case you change your mobile number, kindly inform the bank the soonest possible as many identification means are sent to your mobile number (such as the One-Time Password [OTP] used to log you in to the internet banking website).

In case you change your email address, we also encourage you to contact your branch, as all the notifications are sent to the registered email address in our systems.

For the corporate clients using our internet banking website, make sure that the credentials of the main account used to manage subsidiary users are kept private. These credentials must not be shared with any person other than the one who legally signed the agreement with the bank during the Internet Banking account registration. We encourage you to contact your Relationship Manager at Banque Misr Liban to obtain more information on the management of sub-users and authorization matrix.

Your rights

You have the right to inquire about the personal information we hold about you. You may ask us to provide you the information in physical or electronic form, and to state where and how each specific information is used.

You may also request to modify or delete the personal information we hold about you, or to revoke your consent on any policy you have previously accepted.

This right can be exercised by contacting us on the contact information listed in this policy, or by visiting any branch of Banque Misr Liban.

Proper identification of identity is mandated in order to fulfil such requests.

Privacy Policy modifications and updates

As changes may be introduced to our published services (due to launching new features or if deemed necessary) the privacy policy might be modified to reflect these changes. Therefore you are encouraged to frequently visit the privacy policy page in order to be updated about the changes.

The Privacy Policy may also be amended as required by law in specific countries and jurisdictions.
