FAQs:
Q: How do I know if my card is a contactless-enabled card?
A: Look for the Contactless Indicator on your card to know if your card has the technology to make contactless payments.
Q: How close does my card or device need to be to the contactless checkout terminal?
A: Your card or device must be within 4 cm of the Contactless Symbol contactless symbol on the terminal.
Q: What is the transaction limit for contactless card payments?
A: The contactless transaction limit is up to LBP 75,000 / USD 50
As contactless payments are designed to offer cardholders speed and convenience, you do not need to enter a PIN for transactions under this amount.
For higher value transactions and to insure your protection, a signature or a PIN is required.
Purchases made with contactless card will be displayed on your card statement of account just like any other purchase you make with any other card.
Q: How do I pay with my contactless card?
A: To make a purchase, simply tap your contactless card on the payment reader at the checkout of participating retail locations.
You do not have to physically tap the card or device to the checkout terminal; however, your card or device should be close (within 4 cm) to the Contactless Symbol contactless symbol.
The terminal reads the antenna best when your contactless card or payment-enabled device is flat over the Contactless Symbol, contactless symbol versus at an angle.
You should hold your card or device to the terminal for 1-2 seconds.
Once you are prompted to pay (by the cashier, a light on the machine, etc.), simply tap your card to the terminal where you see the Contactless Symbol
Please note that if you have more than one contactless card in your wallet, you should remove the specific card you would like to use rather than tapping your wallet against the reader.
Q: Can I unknowingly make a purchase if I am in close proximity to a contactless payment terminal?
A: No. Contactless technology requires the merchant to first initiate the payment, and the contactless card must be held in close proximity (4 cm) to the terminal for a transaction to take place.
Q: Why should I use contactless?
A: There are many benefits to contactless payments:
It's like having exact change wherever you go, so you don't have to worry about carrying around cash or fishing for coins.
You are in control because your contactless-enabled card or device never leaves your hand at checkout.
You get better record keeping of all your purchases than you do when using cash.
It's fast and ideal at places where speed is essential, where you need to pay on the go, like stadiums, fast food restaurants, gas stations, grocery stores, pharmacies and more.
Contactless payments are secure because just like a chip card, each transaction is accompanied by a one-time code that protects your payment information.
Q: Where can I use my contactless card?
A: You can use your contactless card at millions of merchants around the world that accept contactless payments by tapping it at a contactless checkout terminal where you see the Contactless Symbol
Contactless is accepted globally at merchants including retail stores, fast food restaurants, pharmacies, grocery and convenience stores and at transit locations. You’ll even find contactless in taxis and at vending machines.
If you don't see the symbol, your contactless-enabled card can still be used by inserting your chip card or swiping at checkout.
In fact, many countries have already adopted contactless payments: for example, in Australia, Canada, the UK, and France, over half of retailers currently accept contactless payments.
Q: Can I use my contactless card even if I don't see the Contactless Symbol?
A: Yes. Contactless payments are accepted at contactless checkout terminals displaying the Contactless Symbol
If you don’t see the Contactless Symbol, you can still use your contactless card at an EMV chip terminal by inserting your card, or at a magnetic stripe terminal by swiping your card.
Q: Are contactless payments safe?
A: Yes. Your contactless card is safe as your regular card for a number of reasons:
- Just like with a chip card, each transaction is accompanied by a one-time code that securely protects your payment information
- You are in control – your contactless-enabled card or device never leaves your hands to make a payment
- No accidental payments – your contactless-enabled card must be close to the reader at checkout to work (must be within 4 cm of the terminal for the transaction to occur)
- Not billed twice – even if you tap more than once at checkout, you'll only get billed once for your purchase
Q: What do I do if my contactless card has been lost or stolen?
A: If your card is lost or stolen, or you believe there has been unauthorized activity on your account, contact your bank 04/727400 or CSC 01/738800 immediately.
Always know where your contactless card or device is and keep it in a safe place. And be sure to keep a record of all of your card numbers, expiration dates and emergency phone numbers.
